Pool 2 Ramp?

Here is a Lions Levee update. Yea, you could plow the ramp and chop the ice shelf off and put in. But the channel out to the river is still froze in. (The cut to the river) So you would have to bust that open too. Willies harbor launch is froze in solid. High temps the next few days is sub 25 will not help out.

Why not just go to 494?

Im goin to 494 early in the morning to at least shovel the ramp. I will bring the boat and maybe shove off on the ice and try to break it up. Be there around 7 or 8 if any one wants to help and maybe fish after.

It was a waste of time. The ramp is plowed off but the ice is thick enough to walk on close to shore. The plow left a big pile of snow that is rock hard on the ice so its gonna be a while I think. hiddens falls hasn’t budged. hopin prescott is open tomorrow. Have an open spot if anyone wants.

The guy at the compost site runs his front end over to the ramp every once and a while to help open it up. If you find him there he might be able to help. Sometime you can also find him as Mississippi pub after work.

Lions don’t look any better today. Actually worse. The channel to cut to the river is solid ice shore to shore. 494 is locked in again. Shelf out 30+ yards. The guy from the compost yard busted open the base of the ramp. Lot and access is plowed.

The main channel is full of bergs and sheets everywhere. If you did get in today, good luck with finding a place to fish! Its as bad today as January 1st most years.

But, I have seen things change in a hurry. And I expect that will be the case here too. Just dang depressing to see the conditions today.

494 was still locked in. There is shore to shore ice at the airport on down to the R/R bridge.

Checked out Lillydale. Had heard there were a couple of boats that launched out of there. They must have dropped the boat on the ice and pushed out. The river is clear from Lillydale on up to the Minnesota, so it would be nice get that ramp open. In rough shape as of last night and these zero degree temps did not help anything.

Here is a link to a short vid on what it looked like last night. My “professional” opinion is 2-3 guys in hip waders could bust ‘er open in an hour or two. At least it would be accessable to small boats and 4×4 vehicles. Getting close boys!

Took a quick detour to HiddenFalls and LilyDale ramp after work… Doesn’t look good for fishing this weekend :-/

Crossing the Hwy5 Bridge all I saw was ice shore to shore. Keeping thinking warm-weather thoughts!

Mike, did you make it down there? I drove by Hidden Falls this morning and it looks as bad as ever. I can’t recall ever seeing this much ice stick around on the upper section of Pool 2 for so long.

Maybe we should start a betting pool on how long we’ll be able to fish before the river gets shut down? (meaning no wake or whatever the gov’t will do)

Yes I was down there. The ramp looked a lot better in the photo. Cleared the snow off about 20′ of ramp. Still plenty of work needs to be done on it. It will get opened up a lot faster if we keep working on it.

494 ramp was cleared off but there was a pretty good sheet of ice in front of the landing. Anyone look at it today. Was thinking that west wind today may have blown it out of there.

Lillydale is open for small/medium sized boats. River is clear up to the confluence! Time to get at ’em!!

I briefly met the guy who did the work on Saturday. He said he worked at it with chainsaws and ladders on Friday. Here’s to you, buddy!

Now, could you do something to improve the bite? I’m sure it won’t be long, but I snagged the only fish I hooked yesterday and it got off pretty quickly. The walleyes and saugers could be there any day now, though!

I took a look at the 494 access this afternoon. The ramp is clear of snow. And the ice pack has moved away from shore. The right hand ramp is full of ice and crap but there’s plenty of water in front of the left hand ramp. You could launch a boat there easily enough; but there’s nowhere to go. I didn’t see any “leads” or open water to get out to the channel. There’s a lot of big chunks of ice heading down river too. So we’re getting closer.
