    Jim:

I always use a small Berkley cross-lock snap (no swivel)whenever I fish crankbaits. I tie the snap onto my line with a palomar knot.

If you are tying directly to the crankbait be sure to tie to a split ring or tie a loop knot. (A knot snugged down on the eye of the crankbait will reduce the action of a crankbait)

    Good Luck

Ya Hey Der – james, Your question has 2 sides to the answer

and it depends on the Crank bait or Stick bait your holding !!

If your holding a bait with a “split ring” on the eye, then you should tie “direct on to the ring”. Use the “palimor” or a “trilene” knot. You should never attach a “snap” on the ring, because you’ll be double jointing the action of the lure.

Conversely, if your holding a bait (Rapala) with just an eye (no ring). Then you tie the bait on with a “Loop Knot” or this is now the time to use a “Duo-Lock” snap. I didn’t say swivel only snaps – there again your dealing in lure action. You don’t want to do anything that thworts the lures action !!

    Hope this helps.

The rapala knot is a loop knot isn’t it? I think I will go with the snaps though no swivel. Thanks Jim

    Jim:

Yes, the rapala knot is a loop knot.
