Why I love the Mississippi River and pool 4. I walked down to the river in front of our house and the ice was cover with eagles. By the time I got back with the camera most of them moved into the trees on the island. The picture is limited by our point-and-shoot camera but by zooming I count 40 eagles in one frame. The one tree has 19 in it. We’ve also got a pile of ducks and a hand full of swans out there.

    Nice John!

I was at the eagle look out a number of year ago. Took the video camera along and capture a eagle nailing a fish in the water. When I put it on the computer at home, I looked at the trees in the background (across the river) and there was a HUGE amount in the trees. Never saw them when I was there.

The Winona area is totally awesome for eagle viewing all year, but it’s amazing in the winter!

That is one of the reasons I love to fish the river in Feb/Mar/April – there are so many eagles it is awesome. I think a lot of folks in our area take them for granted and every year I try to remind myself how fortunate we are to have them in such great numbers to see them all the time.

    Thanks for sharing
