I just heard that the channel at Tremp is wide open . The only problem is the ramp still has about 15-20 feet of ice on and in front of it. I will be heading out there in the morning to check things out. Maybe with therain it will soften it up a little and I can break it up a little. I will let everyone know how it turns out in the morning.

AM is there any talk of work (DNR)to improve the ramp and get rid of the sand build up? Last season I was there mid summer and fall it was rough for launching. I’d like to read your report from Trempeleau I miss staying in town or at the Park.

I have not heard about any work planned up there. Tremp is a nice place to fish, but the ramp could use some work. Hopefully things go good tommorrow.

25-30 years ago I’d spend my day on the float there or renting a boat from Chet or Larry’s landing hoping a fish would swim by my hook and get cought. Some days not even pulling my 14 footer off the top of the truck. I have just started to go back to that area in the last couple of years, but the ramp is in sad shape. The Wis DNR seems to keep some ramps in good shape and others don’t seem to get any money spent in that local.

Yes the landing is in very sad shape. During normal water there is only one launch that you can use and that is risky if you don’t know where the holes are. The problem is that the landing I believe is not owned by the DNR. It is the Corp of Engineers. The DNR has been sticking all of there money into the landing on Long Lake which was not really needed.

Anybody in the La Crosse area can use the Dresbach landing and drive up to Tremp. by boat. I do it a lot. It’s a nice ride with great scenery. Besides that, there are lots of places to fish in between.

    Is what open?

The Dresbach landing? It should be. Especially after last night. That was quite the lightning storm. It was nice to hear the thunder roll too.

When I drove past yesterday there still appeared to be a lot of ice out there. A couple of hearty souls had pushed some 12 ft boats across the ice to open water on the other side. My wife is working in Trempealeau today and I sent her down to the boat landing to check on things. She said there were four boats out who had pushed across the ice to open water and one guy who was coming off the ice from ice fishing and didn’t catch anything.

Well there is good news and bad news. The good news is the channel is wide open and there were two boats out fishing . The bad news is there is a piece of ice right in front of the landing. It is only 50 yards out and only about 6 feet away from being able to put a boat in . I drove all the way up the Minnesota side looking for a quick way to get there to break up the ice. Good luck finding a ramp that way . It would take way to long to go from Dresbach and fight the ice all the way there. I am hoping somebody will break it up when they get there boats back off the ice today.
