In my experience walleyes (and all river species) react immediatly to rising water… current is their LIFE…. and when it changes it MOVES them quickly….. many times not far, always they move shallower, towards current breaks and places where food is concentrated…. they will also seek out clearer water…. or perhaps more accurately if they happen to stumble across clearer water they will hang around…. so often backwaters and clearwater tributaries are good places to check….. fish can be had (and in suprising numbers at times), just not if you fish where you “always” fish…..
Im sure others will have more specifics for pool 4, Ive not fished it during a late spring/early summer flood, so I cant pinpoint places to try….
though… one tip that always seems to hold true… there is a communty hole on the wisconsin side in front of lacopolis, when the water is high they are almost ALWAYS there… its referred to as the “willows” or “clam beds”….. at least by the locals Ive spoke to….. go there, pull a crawler rig on a slip sinker as you drift down river.. you will catch fish…. and play bumper boats with all the others….. usually the fish are not large… but you can find plenty of 15-18” fish there….
in pepin the farther down river you go the clearer water you will find… this is a GOOD thing….. and if I was fishing pool 4 I would work the downriver end of pepin… Im sure its jumpin good…
