Dad and I made it out this morning in hot-pursuit of some dog-fish. Unfortunately this year has been a real tough year of dog fishing for us mainly due to the unseasonably high water and flow we experienced earlier in the summer. With only one dog fish caught after several hours of work we were slightly disheartened and decided to fish for, well… whatever would bite I guess

Soon after switching gears, Dad proceeded to pop a nice walleye trolling a Bomber Long-A; Sweet! As luck would have it, the hour or so of trolling after that fish yielded nothing…

So out come the 3-Way rods… Rigged up with Phelps floaters and armed with a crawler or leech we were set. After numerous snags and nothing to show, the crawler rod rolled with what looked like a snag, no wait… is that a fish? Several minutes later we had a 24lb Buffalo (large mouth I think?) in the boat. Whew! Those things sure know how to test equipment and take you for a ride.

With the sun getting high and the temp warming up we decided to head in and deemed it a successful day with 1 dogfish, 1 walleye, and 1 buffalo.

Not quite what I was expecting today, but we’ll take it

we go bass fishing in a pond filled in by the flooding mississippi and you can tell when you’ve caught a dog because it fights twice as hard a bass. a great fighting fish.

guys! I’m trying to talk the kids into hitting it tonight. They are unreceptive to the idea. So I’m thinking to heck with it and go later in the week when it is cooler and leave the chillun at home.

Yessir, sure seems to be the trend lately. He does compliment my netting skills tho…

Deep down inside I know he’d trade that walleye for my dogfish, he just may not admit it…
