Pool 9 Conditions

Motored around late yesterday for a few hours. The weed-a-thon continues out on the channel and weeds continue to stage in back channels waiting their turn to hit the parade route. South wind wasn’t helping matters with the transverse current conditions yesterday. Temps 78 to 80 on the channel and 80+ out of the current. Several navigation buoys have been relocated on the upper half of the pool. Seen two that were barely breaking the surface. Use caution if you choose to slalom run the weeds!

Signs of Autumn are more evident ~ especially in the trees. Select lucious dark green leaves throughout the summer are beginning to sport a light green to almost yellow hue. Falling river levels and a stable weather pattern will do wonders this week. Fish will be jumping in the boat in the near future
In the not so distant future they’ll be flopping on the hard water

The conditions were the same on Pools 8 and 10. I wonder what this is going to do to the first ice bite. With this must vegetation floating around once it dies off and sinks I wonder how much oxygen it will deplete while rotting at the beginning of the ice season. Keep in mind, there has been large weed mats floating around all year, we haven’t even witnessed the seasonal turn yet

    Thanks for the update Bos

Is a lot of this weed problem anything to do with the past drawdowns? I know they did one on pool 8 before and I believe one is going on on pool 6.

The weed problem was nothing like this during the pool 8 draw down. I’m not sure what the cause is. One thought I did have, with the amounts of rain we have had this year every run off and creek north is full or even over it’s banks. Most of this run off comes straight through farm land. I’m just wondering if the weed growth isn’t being promoted by the amount of run off we have experienced this year. Just a thought, I’d like to hear what others might think the cause is this year. Without a doubt it sure has been an interesting year on the river.

IMO ~ another piece of the puzzle is the establishment of the Zebra muscle. Like vegitation, they also filter the water, improving clarity which allows sun light to penetration to greater depths stimulating more germination.
This year has been an exceptional growing season that got a rather early start too. Lots of precipitation with a high & warm water.
