I just got off the water today, and the conditions were unlike I have ever experienced. The water was very high, but there wasnt a lot of current. The main channel was moving about 3 mph and not creating hardly any eddies or obvious current breaks.

I went to the dam and the water was pouring. Once the MN came it, the water was moving faster, but not as much as I would expect w/ that volume of water.

I have never seen so much water moving so slow….what gives????

    Sure is a weird year.

I’ve found current seems, but only to find those sub-22″ smaller fish on my last 2 trips

I’m ready to start fishing Wingdams again

maybe we should do a study on the Ford Dam, to study flow readings. i’m sure there is a college professor somewhere that would gladly spend the tax dollars on it…

hmmm. that is wierd though, i know this past weekend on 3, the flow was extremely fast, and high.

According to the hydro, the closest pool from pool 2 that is actually starting to drop is pool 10. The rest are all steady with Redwing rising a little at 7.29 ft.
Looks like there may be some lake effect going on with no place for the water to rush off to.

It has been a strange season so far with these higher than normal levels. The beach goers haven’t been in a very good mood lately.

I think Jeff has got it right. They may be holding water down below. I’ve been keeping tabs on pool 2 depth and it is about 8′ above “normal”. You have to go back to when the flooding was subsiding in April to find the depths we are at now.

Same thing on Pool 1 on Saturday, with the South wind I actually ended up fishing upstream instead of down??? Very high water with less current than the last time I was out. Seemed strange to me as well.

Don’t worry Jeff. Your water is coming. Gates & Rollers at L&D9 were against the ceiling this afternoon in Lynxville. Injury to insult ~ EVERY trib is now dumping pure chocholate milk. June ~ Aug stationary fronts are a BAD deal unless you are a mosqitto farmer.

When the Minnesota River is as high from all the rain we have had it backs up the Mississippi river. So levels are high from where meet to the Ford Dam and thats why there is little to no current. When you get south of say the 35E bridge the water speed will be a bit faster. This happens mainly during the spring melt off but when we have over 7 inch’s of rain in June you have to deal with too….
