Just to note an important meeting this coming Saturday (Feb. 9) at Sandy Point Restaurant on Lake Zumbro. It will run from 2 – 4 PM in one of their private rooms.
Kevin Stauffer and Al Schmidt from the DNR office in Lake City sharing with us important information on the new regulations for the Zumbro River….future thoughts on where we go from here…and how to take scale samples of smallmouth bass…what they reveal about the health, size and age of the fish…and how the habitat plays into the formula for evaluating the samples.
Al and Kevin will have numerous handouts, and a map showing the various stretches of water that have smallies will be presented. Hopefully a number of people will commit to harvesting the scale samples from these stretches to aid in determining what if any action should be taken to promote, protect and enhance the quality of smallmouth fishing in our area.
This would be a good opportunity to get a start on the Root and Cannon rivers also. Although Kevin and Al are not responsible for the Root, they would be interested to hear from people who want to see improvements and get us moving in the right direction.
If you are interested in improving the quality of the smallmouth fishery in SE MN streams please make it a point to attend.
