Plastics on LOW?

Has anyone tried plastics (ringworms and doos) on Lake of the Woods through the ice? The water is dark and there is a mix of saugers and walleyes. Of course, there is no current out on Big Traverse Bay.

Do you think they would work or do you need some current so the fish have less time to make a decision?

I’m heading up there the first weekend in March.

Take some with and give it a try. Dont think I’ve heard of anyone mentioning a place where they have not caught eyes and saugers. Not sure why they would not work under the ice. You would think that just the slight movements of the hand even when you are trying to hold the rod still would be anough action for the plastics. Try playing with them in the hole to see what kinda actions are created with different hand movements.
    Good luck fishing.

I’m hitting the Rainy in April. I plan on bringing some Ringworms with me.

We hit some big fish up there and we use Rainbows and do VERY well. However, I do want to see if the plastics will bring in bigger fish.

Note that the Linder’s did a show on the Rainy in the spring and they were using lizards and did very well. Again, it is a show, and Al is one of the best fisherman out there, so he does have an advantage over the average “joe”. But I have to try it.

We’ve used ringworms and Kalins up there for two years and have had pretty good success. Minnows, especially rainbows, seem to do very well and plastics were not quite as good as down here, but then again we maybe didn’t use them often enough or give them as much time as I would down here. Remember also that most of the people that have good success using plastics on the Mississippi are fishing very shallow with very light jigs. Most of the fishing on the Rainy is done on the channel edges in the spring. Super Doos may work very well up there and I may have to give them a shot this year. Gary, when are you heading up? I gre up in Hastings, who are you going up with? See my post in the Rainy River Forum.

    Hey bri-bigeyes.

Grew up outside of Hastings. Actually in the Hampton / Vermillion area.

We are heading up about the second week in April. Going with some work buddies. It is our annual spring river run trip that we always take. Probably one of my more favorite trips of the year. I love that river.

I’m heading up April 9-14, so let’s get in touch prior to that and we can swap some information. My parents live on 205th Street, so I did a lot of running around in the Hampton/Vermillion area, in fact I cooked at the Stein Haus during high school. Send me a pm and I’ll give you some more information on our trip.

    Hey Cory!

Why, yes I did. He said to say Hi back.

However, he did counter the accusations about the Bucaneer. He said it was all you?!?!?!?

We lived on the fourteen hundred block of Sibley street in my younger years. Oh yes, I am a proud graduate of Kennedy Elementary school.

    Cory;

He said that the only thing you could hit with success was the action at the Bucaneer!!!

    Just kidding.

Give him a call. PM me and I’ll give you his phone number.
