Finally got the wife and I together for my three way trolling attempt.
Up at 5 am and on the river by 8..or so…not excatly a early start, but we got there and that’s what counts.
Had two things I wanted to try, first some dragging jigs and then the three way rigs with lures.
Tipped the jigs with leeches and used mostly floating or shallow lures on the three ways.
Kudo’s to Dean and the guys at Evert’s for helping me get set up for these dragging jigs.
By 3 it was pretty hot and the pleasure boats were coming out in force, add to that it was pretty windy it made the off by 4:30 time just about right.
We did hit a 18 and 15″ walleye and one smaller sauger on the draging jigs while drifting the inlet to Pepin, the can line I think they call it.
Fish were shallow, 4-8 foot here.
We then went to trolling and picked up another couple small walleyes and 4-5 sheepheads, hard fishing with boats, wind and new tackle for us, but we caught a few fish and that’s what counts.
We run 12-20+ fow for this set up.
Having the console 27C sonar take a dump didn’t help either, the last couple hours we had to guess on depths or leave the trolling motor in while drifting.
We were both pretty beat up by the end of the day, but Ma had a smile on her face and that’s what counts.
I hope everybody else is having a good time.
