What’s going on down at 494? Anybody take a peek lately? These ramp closures have really got me wound up.

Still closed as far as I know. Give south saint paul a call if you want it open other wise they will sit and Waite until it is convenient for them to open it. The river was never closed during the high water. It was just the cities closing the ramps.

I was down there Sunday evening. The barricades were still in place and the signs are still up. The river is down quite a bit. The cans are sticking out of the water better, there’s still a lot of big timber going by. I saw a guy on the Newport side in a canoe, and then later on a tuna boat came barreling down the middle of the channel so somebody has access!

It just seemed so weird, it was a beautiful calm evening. The river looked beautiful and that parking lot should have been full of rigs.

I stopped at 5:00 this afternoon at 494. It is down just below the turnaround island. We were launching last year when it was at that height.

I also swung into the Spring Lake launch just off Hilary Path on my way home from Hastings. I watched a guy launch a fairly big aluminum bass boat. He had to back in a long way but he made it.

Joan from SSP called me back this morning and said it would be another week approximately. For a more specific date as things get closer we can call 651-554-3225. That’s the number for the service center that’s responsible for the landings. Looks like 3 and 4 will be the only options again this wknd. Don’t kill the messenger!

Not that 3 or 4 are bad options…here’s a toad I caught with Marty Hahn a week ago on 4.

I called them earlier today and they said its very unlikely that it will be open until later next week. I was told there was still water in the lower lot/ramp area and it will take a few days to get Public Works out there to clean it up. I also saw that post on their website, but it was just so vague I figured I’d talk to someone over the phone instead. One can only hope if they get enough people asking that they’ll do it faster.

OK this is as of 9:30 this morning: 494 barriers are down and you can drive to the ramp and through the turnaround; but it is a big muddy mess. You probably can launch there; but I would wear hipboots and have 4 wheel drive. THERE IS NOTHING OFFICIAL THAT THE RAMP IS OPEN. HOWEVER, THE BARRIERS ARE DOWN.

Lilydale road is still officially closed and the park gate is locked; but the road looks fine and all cleaned up. I don’t know what the hold up is at Lilydale. I would look for that to open any time now. The river is back in it’s banks and there is no water or mud on the road from the Yaght club to the park.

Thank Drew. The little knucklehead got sick at school and gave me the day off. So now he is watching TV and playing with his DS. Yes I took the poor sick little guy on a tour of the ramps on the way home from school. I think he’ll live.

Have others been calling the city about lillydale and hiddenfalls? I have called the past four days with no luck on getting them to open ramps. Here is the number is anyone cares to make a fuss.

When you mean SSP you are referring to 494 launch correct?

The Ft. Snelling state park office today would not even give an estimate on when the ramp in the park would be open. The park office number is (612) 725-2389. As of 4/5 the gate at the park entrance at the top of the hill was locked.

I have said it before and I will say it again. It seems like the city opens the ramps when they get around to it. tax dollars at work

I just got back from 494 and the Ramp closed sign is still up. Also the parking lot is full of mud so plan on having your boat full of mud because who ever parks the trailer will be walking through mud to get back to the river.

I’m surprised they opened it if that is even the case, frankly!

Hey Gary! You are correct about that sign; but it is a handwritten sign posted out by the main drag. They pulled the barrier so I say they opened it. You’re also right about that mud. If a person is unsure about their ability to launch and not get stuck I would stay away. And a person should be ready to do some wading as well…. But its open!

looks like I should have kept dad’s bobcat an extra week to clean the ramp.
