Is there any landings / Ramps between the St. Paul Park access and the pool 2 dam. I see on a map that their is a Buds landing in Spring lake – Is this a decent landing and is it easy to get to the main river channel? I also see one on Grey Cloud island but I believe that one was closed long ago – Is that correct or did they reopen it. I’d like to do some fishing in a few weeks back in Grey Cloud but would rather not make the 6 or 8 mile run if possible. Thanks in advance for all of your responses.

Buds landing is the private access i believe, but there is a public access just out of hastings on Hilary Path (county rd 42 & hilary path) it is a minimum maintenance road, and less then minimum maintenance access, so, it all depends on how big of a boat you are putting in. but, with the higher water, you may be ok.

if you launch, go out from shore a little bit and then head out to the right, you will be ok, just be on the lookout for timber, as there is lots of it in that area, anytime of the year.

The Grey Cloud Island ramp has been closed for several years. Too bad, it was a nice place.

The landing on Spring Lake will not be accessible as it is all flooded and full of silt. If you drive down with your boat you will not be able to turn around as the turn around is flooded. The water going back to Grey Cloud is so high that it would be hard to get a boat under the bridge and or thru the culvert.

I’m not going to be going down their until the water goes down some. I was just looking for a different landing option. I just hate to make that long river run. That part of the river and me have some bad history!!!!! I really like to fish bass back in Grey cloud but can’t enjoy myself fully. I sure wish they had not closed the ramp back their but I guess if it was open the fishing would not be as good as it is. Oh well I’ll just have to cross my fingers and make the run.

The one time I went out on Pool 2 last year, my goal was to get back to Grey Cloud but I ran into some 30-35 mph gusty winds so that pretty much hosed a trip down the main channel, but even still it didn’t seem like it would be too far to go from the St Paul park landing. If you get down around Grey Cloud island its fairly easy sailing from there right? I realize you can try to sneak through the culvert or go the longer way around, but its not really much more than 10 minutes or so is it? I haven’t had the chance to make it in there, but once this water drops thats probably the first place I’m gonna try to hit this year. Just wanting a little clarification I guess, cause if theres a better landing than St paul Park for fishing behind Grey Cloud, then I’d love to know about it.

If you don’t know exactly how to run that cut from the main channel to Grey Cloud slough, you have about a 90% chance of running agound or hitting a stump or both!

And if your name is Jon Jordan you have a 5% chance of swamping your boat in the middle of Mille Lacs opening weekend…..
