Pool 3 landings – and DNR fines

The boat dealer I have been waiting on for months to deliver my boat, and from who I have heard so many stories on why it is being delayed has now told me that the DNR would impose a 20-30K fine for anyone on the river and they would not be able to water test the boat for at least 2 more weeks.

Since I have been hearing of a lot of people still fishing pool 4 but also know that the landings on pool 2 are closed, I am wondering what is the status of the landings on pool 3 and if this DNR fine is a true statement that I was told.

I don’t know why they can’t pull the boat 20 miles and test it on pool 4 in lieu of the hassle they have already put me through.

Call the DNR or Sheriffs office and they should be able to tell you if its true or not.

is this a boat dealership just outside of hastings, to the north?

Sounds like a complete line of BS to me.

Don’t know who your dealer is and don’t care.
Are you sure your boat is even there yet?
If not, he lied to you.
Find out if what he told you about the DNR is fact.
If not, he lied to you.
If your boat is in and what he told you about the DNR and fines is true, he’s either too lazy to trailer to the pool with open ramps, or he’s too busy.
Now, having said all that, with all the trash and whatnot in the flooded river, I’d be leary about testing a new rig, because you’ll need to open it up and run for a ways, and that is not the thing to do with river conditions the way they are.
Just something to think over while you check out his story.

What Herb said…and the wake created REALLY messes up shoreline property when the water is this high.

One side note: I was called yesterday asking the same question. A google search showed nothing. But give the Dnr a ringy ding.

Jon Jordan reported that a few of the metro lakes would be open within the week and that his boat would be floating shortly. Agreeing with Herb and BK, I think I would much rather have the boat tested on a lake rather than the raging MISS River at this immediate time…

In regards to the on-water test, I agree it would be ludicrous to do a ‘test’ on the water now as well. I couldn’t believe my ears when he stated this was the reason. I just want to get the boat so I can add the electronics/trolling motor/N2K network etc. etc. so it is ready to go when the river subsides.

According to the DNR – the river is Open. only the US. Corp could restrict travel on the waterway as it is a Federal waterway. Called the US. corp. Waiting for a return call.

A boats wake is nothing compared to the wave action from the wind…Take it from a shoreline owner. I would rather have boats on the lake during high water than 1 day of wind at 15 MPH. wave action does tons more damage. It is relentless. So I do not buy into fishing boats causing damage. Maybe the luxury liners. But even those are not constant.
    My 2 cents

Checked out the Hastings and Prescott launches today. Looked like the DNR (2 boats) launched out of Hasitngs today. Found them down in front of the MN beach on the Criox. They were pulling in a huge gill net. Pulling out lots of drum, saugs and eyes. It was a bit disturbing. 3 kids were pulling in the net and LAUNCHING the fish back into the water. Many fish floating around the area BELLY UP. I did not see anyone recording any data. Don’t know what the purpose was. IMO they were clearing mis-handling the fish. The eagles will be eating well this afternoon.

Prescott launch was open with 2 boats out. Half the parking lot under water, but a few parking spots to be had.

I was putzing around the lock today at #3. Asked the Corps employee if he knows anything about the river being closed…he didn’t know what I was talking about.

Lock is opening Monday for the 2010 season!
