Lake Pepin is 99% ice free. It usually indicates warming water, lets hope it works this year. The Wabasha Harbor still has ice but Wilcox opened up. Bring hip boots if you plan to launch.

Thanks for update. I know it’s a little early yet but how does it look at Maple Springs boat landing? Thanks

The polar satellite site MODIS-TODAY also shows Green Bay breaking up very dramatically yesterday and ice-free today.
No sign of much on No. MN lakes except the Rainy outlet on LOW and lakes today appear frozen at least down thru Iowa.
Anyone spotted any massive numbers of Eagles this year at the Cottonwood tree riveriver from Dam 4?

it will be another couple weeks till i get out there. after driving by the first few days of the week, and seeinh hundreds of giant trees floating down river, i think i am going to wait for the water to go down a bit and for things to settle….

Lock and Dam #3’s official opening is Monday.

The closes barge traffic I could see was in # 13 upbound, but that doesn’t mean the three barge tow will come up this far.

I’m betting it takes a HUGE amount of fuel to fight the current at this time.
