Planning on fishing pool 5 later in april, seems the Main channel Bait store in Alma is a good place to get bait, but what about launching?
Some place close to them ?
Also any suggestions on some spots to try?

There is a public spot with two ramps right across the street over the railroad tracks…
I believe there is a public launch on the south side of town not sure if it will be under water then or not
April 24th is when we’re going, hopefully water will be down by then, thanks sounds like everything we need is in on spot.

The public landing is directly across from the bait shop. Ask them if you have any questions. You better get there pretty early. The lot usually fill up quick around then. The water level should be manageable by then.

hehe..its about 95 miles to there, not sure how early we’ll be getting there, in case its full, any other suggestions?
I’d emagine the bait store should know also?

By the time your trailer tires hit the hwy after leaving the bait shop you’ll dam near be turning into the landing,i wouldn’t worry about parking the fishing pressure usually slows down by then but the fishing can be awesome. Is this a 1 day trip?

Yes one day, the Apple Valley In Fisherman club is having a tourny there.
Never fished pool 5, ought to be interesting..

Just curious, I read the current can be pretty swift at Alma’s and it was suggested to try Halfmoon instead, seems no bait store close and shallow water there though.
Normally current wouldn’t bother me much but I’ll be with a partner I’ve never fished with before and we’ll be launching for the first time together.
Considering I’ll be going the 24th of April, and hopefully water will be down by then, how swift do you think the water will be by then, maybe compare to Evert’s, where I like to usually launch??

Don’t use Half Moon. There is a relatively new launch at West Newton. The drive to it is steep, but the landing itself is great. As for bait, there is a bait shop on the way in Wabasha and one in Kellogg.
If I we you, I’d stick with Alma. It is not that bad, especially with two guys.
PM me if you decide to use the Mn landing and I’ll fill in whatever details you need.

Thanks, if you don’t think we’ll get into to much trouble Alma looks good, appears all the stuff we’ll need is there.

If you can handle Everts, Alma will be easier.

Prairie Island Bait. Shorty is the guy that runs it. Worth stopping just to meet him.

No doubt, “an experience”.
he’s 1 of a kind… don’t try to get a report out of him or you’ll get a grunt

I’m married so I’m used to being ignored….
Thanks all, not sure where I’ll launch, but at least I have several choices now.
