The gates were just pulled. A fair amount of debris at first, but I have seen much worse. Water clarity is normal. The bite overall is slower than we would like for now.Time to dust off the rigging rods and handline reels. For us that like to cast jigs & blades, its looking to be a great year!

Yep, saw a truck tire float on by, lots of garbage, those little ice bergs sound kind of funny hitting my 14 foot pop can of a boat. Watched a boat that was “rigging” and pretty much schooled my boat. I kept a couple male 17’s today. Saw a guy pull a 29 incher off a spot I worked for over an hour. Guess I will be rigging next go around. What a great fishery!

What do you mean specifically by rigging? Just trying to learn the lingo

Yep, three ways with plastics and meat, or with raps and plastic, two raps, meat and meat, plastic and plastic, the list goes on and on. Very good way to stay in the “zone” and very effective.

Ya its kind of confusing. Theres some wild names out there. I have to try this miller rig! How big of weights are everyone using on these? Same as 3way? Keep in mind if your using multiple baits on one line it counts as you 2 lines. Dont want to see anyone get citations!

    How big a weight????

Good question, the guideline is to maintain a 45 degree angle to maintain proper angle of the dangle so to speak. This varies by amount of current and depth you are targeting. So really, there isnt one answer that fits everyones application. That is why we have weights up to 8oz in bell sinkers and handline weights over a pound.

Hey dean how high does the water have to get to have flooding issues down there? Are you concerned for this spring’s high water?

Dean’s asked me to help him out with replies…because he’s busy sand bagging around the minnows. (KIDDING!)

As a precaution, the campers in the north forty are being moved out. They started that last week…so there’s the concern. He didn’t have panic in his voice though!!

Coffee is on in the bait shop at 6 am each day.

Because of the unknown, Dean’s been busy with precautions…like moving all his cookies to higher ground…just in case.

I hope to have an update with photos tomorrow (Friday) late afternoon evening.
