I was wondering what type of batteries people prefer. I now think that either you spend the big money on dry cells or you get a regular battery from wal-mart. Am on my 3rd exide nautilus gold in 3 years and if not for the warranty, I would have wrote a very nasty letter to exide. On the other hand my other trolling motor battery (a walmart extreme) lasted me 3 1/2 years at under half the price of the exide.——————————————————————-Pax

Pax,
About 3 years ago I had the same problem. Got mad one day, walked into Wally world and got a deep cycle and a started battery and have had no problems sence. Spose this year will be the year? HA.
TriggerJanuary 27, 2002 at 10:32 pm #236703I’ve been using Interstate batteries and have had very good luck with them for a long time. I did use Stowaways and had terrible luck with them, never again on the Stowaways. SNAKEYES
January 27, 2002 at 11:14 pm #236705Wallmart Everstart Deep Cycle, 27 series. Two full seasons on these batteries and no sign that they won’t go 2 more. (and I use them a lot)

January 28, 2002 at 1:23 am #236707You can’t beat a Diehard no matter how much you use it I won one in a Team Walleye Tournament 3 years ago and I just gave it away with my old boat man I wish I would of kept it as soon as these batteries Die I will buy new Diehards.

How many plants do you think makes batteries, not many and, along with most of the manufactured goods it,over china or other cheap labor countries. And how many ways can you make a car or boat battery. The problem is not the maker it,s the seller. Sometimes a bad one slips buy, dropped or damaged , instead of taking the bad one out they go in the back room get a new one give it to the customer and put the one returned back on the rack. Sears got caught doing that. they denied that so they put a under cover reporter in the store a caught them with thier pants down. then sears paid off. well this was on t.v and they had a battery expert say you pay for cranking amps and warranty. the expert stated by a high amp.cranker and buy where the display is visible on the public area.He says 5yrs is about the best you get but most about 4yrs. Oh he said buy at high volume stores they have new ones come offtend and will take it back if you have a beef with out any back peddling. take a volt meter with and buy a no maintenance type they dont need water and the acid won,t spill all over your boat. The cranker for the big motor and the deep cycle for the troller, also look for the date the battery was made some places try to slip you the older ones in the front of the display don,t by one thats over 3months old ,keep them clean and don,t let them over heat, but boat use is cool because their is no engin compartment, thats why you can get a maintnance free battery and if not over heated will last as long as a wet cell fill type
January 29, 2002 at 4:00 pm #236764interstate batteries – been in the family for years, never had to take one back for warrenty yet! I have had lots of problems with exzide, remember when you buy a battery you get what you pay for!

January 29, 2002 at 7:19 pm #236772I’m not questioning the bad experiences listed here with Exide but for what it’s worth I have had 4 trouble free years with mine and will start year 5 this season. 2 trolling and 1 starter. I take very good care of them. Onboard charger all summer and trickle charger once a month in the winter while storing them in the basement. Not sure if I will buy them again or not. We’ll see how long they last.
