what are you fishing for? bass waleye crappie or cat fish
to wanting to fish pool 19 or pool 20 also do you have a boat or not if you have a boat how far are you willing to drive it

keokuk to the fortmadison bridge is one of the roughest waters on the illinois river depending on the wind a 12 mph west wind will send 5 foot rollers in the fortmadison area

also a 12 mph south wind will send the same size rollers before the bend around montros this is one of the wort win places i have ever seen and i fish the pool ALOT

Great info/questions Dusty! I had to look up Keokuk on a map…just a bend in the river…the way it looks.

You are a great example of why this site rocks!

ok i have never fished the damn at keokuck but i do believe its a power damn alot of catfish and walleye are there below the damn and i hear of alot of fall walleye being caught there 2 also the missouri river i believe dumps in right there

as for just north of the damn there are huge grass and pad beds and shallow flats rolling humps off the channel i herd good for cats

then there is chaney creek just north of the damn on the illinois side good bass hole

The des moines river enters the miss at keokuk, i know the des moines is full of walleyes. It ought to be good there. The des moines is one of the better rivers in iowa for catfish, walleyes and whitebass. I know at rathbun dam theres guys who quit going to canada for walleyes and now vacation at rathbun for walleyes. Im pretty shure the whole des moines river is good for walleyes. The mouth of the des moines ought to be good around the wingdams on the miss.
