River is still up a bit from June/July conditions but forecasted to drop 6″ to a foot over the course of the next week. Clarity continues to be very good especially along the channel edges where I’ve spent the lions share of my time with a line in the water. Backwater vegitation is beginning to die off. Won’t be long and we’ll need some Rague sauce for the Fall flush!
Wing ding gills have been running on the wrong side of the 8″ mark for me this summer. Pictured is about the average size I’ve been catching. I’ve all but given up on feeding the little bugars! Besides, I’m pretty sure they were created to be caught through a hole cut in the ice
WB dims have been excellent but unfortunately they’ve been a onesie/twosie thing. They are definately not schooling up as tight which other fellow fishermen on the pool have attributed to a smaller shad population.
Pike & Smallies have been the most consistant fish to see what the inside of my boat looks like. Channel rocks with intermediate flow are holding very good numbers right now. Overall the pike are running small. Snake-like 22″ to 26″ is definately the dominant year class. Overall Smallie size has been good. 15″ & 16″ inchers are abundant with a few stretching past 17″.
Most of my damage on the game fish has come via Bomber cranks & Traps. I’ve also had some good luck tossing pumpkinseed Senkos on the Smallies.
