Pool 4 plastic bite is still going strong (for some people anyway)! I had a chance to get on the water today with Kerry Harvey. it was a little strange for me not to have any livebait in the boat. My plan though was to brush up on fishing the plastics. Kerry shared some great tips, and showed me in fine fashion how it is done. I think I was pretty even with him when our fish count was at 12, but 19 out of the next 20 were all caught by Kerry!
We ended up with 32 fish for the day, all but 2 were eater size or bigger. Kerry will post a picture later. Thanks for the outing buddy.

Dustin called me 4 times between last night and this AM to tell me how good it was for him and that I should get my kesiter over to the river and get in the boat with him. If the excitment in his voice was any indication, it’s good. Very good.

Don Hanson???? I thought you couldn’t teach on ole dog new tricks. Like James said the plastic bite is on STILL! Yesterday was just awesome. We had 60 walleyes in the boat yesterday caught everyone ringworm. While everyone else was playing with the saugers Dustin, Rob and I went pitching.

Thanks Don it was a fun day in the boat. For those of you that have not used super doos for sauger yet, ya gotta try it. 95 percent of the time they just crush em, and there’s no thinking “was that a hit” you just set the hook and bring em in. It was to windy and rainy to take alot of pics, but we did get one shot (not the best picture ever taken). Take care…

Hey Jarrad, I know it’s hard to believe. I did catch a few fish on FisherFlick jigs tipped with doos! I was getting them on chart. Overbite jigs also. I have been using hair jigs since Sept.,so it was fun to add another presentation. Kerry hit a few nice eyes on the Doo’s also. (too nasty for pics)

Kerry, noticed the line you were useing. What kind if you don’t mind. I need something I can see better. For some reason my eyes have a hard time seeing the high vis green anymore. Probaly something called age. I’ve used heavier jigs the last couple times out with plastics for the feel but am not getting the hits with the heavier weight. Thanks

Art, That’s stren hi-vis gold, 8lb test. I picked up a couple of spools 3 weeks ago, and have used it on my last 3 trips, so far I like it for jigging.

Art the Stren hi vis is good stuff I have also used it this past year but it still has way to much memory just like the Berkely does i have found if you want some of the best hi vis line try the Maxima Fibre glow its hot pink try the 6lb test its the toughest line I have used and almost no Memory and does’nt get brittle in the cold
    Hope this helps

See James, I’m not the only one who likes this ”pretty pink line.” lol. Seriously, I really like the line too and it is good strong line and easy to see ”above” water. Thanks, Bill

Thanks Kerry & Nate. Will try both lines. Where can I get the Maxima line? If that doesn’t work anybody know where I can get a seeing eye dog that fishes . Thanks again and good luck.

    Art,

Deezee has the dog, but I’m not sure any of us could afford it.

Kerry, you are right, that day was definitely a Super Do bite. They didn’t want much to do with a ring worm. Too bad you couldn’t have gotten a picture of my Lund in the background.

I’m new to this site. I have fished pool 5 a few times in September with good luck. I am going to Evert’s in June and use James Holst guide services. Most of my fishing has been with crankbaits and baitcast reels. I am wondering what kind of line I need to spool with for Walleye on plastic. I use Spiderwire Stealth on my baitcast and love it. Can I use this and what size line is recomended? I would also spool up a reel with mono. I like Berkley Ironsilk. What size mono should I spool?

    This is a Great site!!

Hey Jim. As far as going fishing with James I would recomned using his stuff for the trip. He keeps top notch tackle and plenty of it in the boat and from what I have seen it is fine tuned for what the fish want at that time of year.
A second reason I like using a guides tackle is it gives me a chance to try some different equipment out for the day. It sure is nice to be able to feel the fight of the fish on a set up compared to standing in the store isle pulling on a rod tip or spinning a drag with your fingers.
    Good Luck fishing.

Thanks Mike, was just wondering what kind of line to have on my rods as I’m going to be there for four days. I don’t fish in the winter, so I spend that time putting line on, and cleaning up my equipment. I’m sure James will give me his Ideas when he returns from vacation (hmmmmmm a vacation from fishing) I’ve read lots of the stuff put on this site and I feel as many opinions as I can get will help me make my own decisions.

    THANKS
