When an opportunity presents itself ~ may as well capitalize. Right? Such an opportunity presented itself during the 2 hour Q&A session last night anchored off a wing damn. Water is up considerably on pool 9 over the past 36 hours. Wing damn faces no more than a foot & half below the surface Sunday night are now 2 and half to 3 feet below the surface. With the influx of water due to recent heavy rains to the north the flow has picked up considerably and unfortunately so has the amount of debris in the water. My soon to be 4 year old son couldn’t help but notice the abundance of floating debris in the form of vegetation & wood. Why is all that stuff in the water daddy? Cuz some little boy upriver is fishing with his dad along the banks and is throwing all those things in the water! He shouldn’t do that should he daddy? No! And next time we are fishing from the bank you better not throw anything into the water either! I won’t daddy. I promise. Verdict is still out on that.
Clarity on the channel was still exceptional last night despite the change in water level. As for the fish, we found some less than eager gills but still provokable pushed to the outside edges of the wing we made home as well as a lone channel cat river rigging crawlers. Very slow retrieves with properly weighted harnesses triggered strikes. If ya let the pole sit that’s just what it did until some floating spaghetti slammed into it! We carried well over a 7” average on the fish caught. No herd bulls. Gave up on tossing bombers or spinners for game fish after the 10th consecutive cast was intercepted by floating weeds.
