The plan was to work the wing dams for eyes on pool 14. Ya just never know what type of action might develop. Started using crawlers, catching a couple of frying pan size cats. They were released since the plan was for a walleye dinner. The big gills started hitting the crawlers, again they were tossed back, with the idea of boating a few eater eyes. Action started to slow so we started trolling cranks. Caught 2 decent northerns and released. The eyes were just not hungry I guess. Now we were thinking we had released a decent fish fry and kept trolling. Finally one sauger was caught, but managed to release itself as it was lifted in the boat. Next the white bass started to take the cranks. Well the plan changed that a white bass fish fry would be good. Put 2 nice whites in the cooler. Just like that the white bass stopped biting and a nice slab crappie was boated. Well white bass and crappie would be a good fish fry. We should have released the white bass and crappie as well, since we were only boating sheephead and a mooneye after that. I am learning, that maybe a fish fry with a variety is a plan to start with, although catch and release is cool also. Just can’t beat a good day fishing anytime with a plan or not.
