What the heck is this? These have been out on pool 2 for well over a month in several locations. Usually in strings of 3 or 4. These are in 3-5 FOW. The bottle float is held in place by a cement cender block. The other end of rope is attached to a galvanized pipe. They all have a yellow tag with no idenifying markings.

I’m guessing they are trying to attract zebs for some kind of survey or count? But only a guess. (No zebs on this one btw…)

I have had the same exact setup the past few seasons here on this end of the river and have yet to figure what it’s about.

Sorry for the lateness, but mystery solved. I used to work for Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, and those are black fly sample jugs. The yellow things mimic the vegetation that the larvae attach to. They can be detached to be sent in for sample analysis and quickly replaced. When the sample gets high enough the MMCD boat will go out and dump an eco-friendly pesticide in the river to clear them out.

I set quite a few of them on the Rum when I worked for Anoka County.
