I’ve got one in the boat but I really don’t use it that much. If I was buddy fishing with another boat it would come in handy though. It’s also nice if you want call the locks to see when they are locking pleasure craft but I rarely lock through. You can also use a cell phone for this. My radio has the weather band and I find that very useful during threatening weather.
I have always had a marine radio on my Lund. It has come in handy in EMERGENCIES especially in early spring or fall when not many boaters on the river. But I think now-a-days more people have cell phones they take with them. So I beleive they are replacing marine radios.
If I were to buy a new marine radio I would deffinetly buy a waterproof one. The one I have isn`t and knock on aluminum it has never gave me a lick of problem in 18 years. Mine is a Ray Jefferson.
hi TC, read my post from 11/28/01, it was a reply to Quicksilver, who had a question on Marine radioes. it is on page 12 or 13. I’d redo the whole thing but don’t have time now at 1am.
Don’t leave home without them. safety is the biggest concern. I have had to tow a few boats in who called on chan 16 who were in trouble. without the radio, they’d still be out there waving their arms. read my 11/28 post. Jack.
