After being invited (here on IDO) to the 4th Annual Donaldson Open Invitational on pool 7 or 8 cant remember which I decided to go granted I’ve only seen that water from the vehicle on I-90 or HWY 61 which ever. I gave some new waters a try in efforts to win the walleye category of the tourney which if it was a tourney for the most walleye/sauger we may have won as we (the woman and I) caught 4 walleye and 8 sauger but they all were 14″ and under I couldnt find any big ones . We also caught 4 northern and 2 smallmouths. With about 30 minutes left to fish I decided to troll near the landing and after about 50-75 yards into our final trolling run Both the back rods jerked as fish were tugging the plugs. I was letting the woman reel in most of the fish but when I went to hand her the rod it didnt move and started to peel drag so I was happy and thought I finally found my big walleye for the day but it ended up being my new personal best 14.7lb sheepie which made me very happy because now I had a shot at the rough fish category in the tourney so I flopped the pig sheepie into the livewell and headed to weigh in. Well our northern didnt compete with the 15lb’er that won the tournament but my almost 15lb sheepie did the trick as I got to take home the gold for the rough fish category. Thanks Tom great tourney and it was a blast. Jeff, Brett, and Mudshark great to see you guys and I am looking forward to the next outting that you were telling me about Jeff By the way the Donaldsons hosted a great event thank you again Tom. I plan on returning for this event again
