What’s your best fishing memory of the past year?

I enjoyed many days on the water with old friends, fishing for pike in Latvia (quite an experience), and fishing with and meeting some great people.

Fishing with James Holst was the high-point for me… he is truely a great river-fisherman.

Coming to the FTR get together, getting to fish Pool 4, is a great memory for me. It is also the beginning of a minimum of one trip a year to the get together and hopefully a few more just fishin’ trips to Red Wing and surrounding area. Thanks JBB for sharing your boat and experience with me! I had a great time this year here as well, fishing with a new friend John Mannerino. The fishing was very tough this past summer here, but we had a ball and learned a few things as well! Happy New Year

This was a year of firsts for me. First time in the NW Angle on Lake of the Woods. First time fishing with a former bass tournament pro in his new Ranger. We spent the day flippin’ for largemouth that day – also a first – and did quite well.

The best experience of the year was the day my youngest bro and I spent with James Holst on the Mississippi. On the way home I asked little bro, who has fished the Rainy Lake area 150+ days/year for the past 20 years, for his evaluation of James, he replied, “He’s the real deal.”

My best memory was when my two year old boy drove the boat for his first time. I didn’t know it at the time but a friend in the front of the boat snapped a picture of it. He blew it up and framed it really nice and gave it to me for Cristmas.

Maybe I’ll scan it to show it to you guys.

A four day fishing extravaganza spent in the Park falls WI area. One day on the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, 2 canoeing the Flambeau River and a portage trip to a small lake in the area. Smallies galore, few walleye and 3 or 4 muskie. Beautiful weather and great comraderie.

The FTR get-together gets my vote.

That and watching my daughter do battle with a 4# smallie.

The whole year’s been a good memory. Fishing with James was truly a high point that I hope to repeat during the coming year. Buying Hougie’s boat doesn’t really qualify as a fishing memory, but it will certainly create some and I’ll always remember that. Still hear the theme from 2001 every time the garage door goes up.

    Good idea JBB!

I would have to say night fishing pool 8 this past fall will stand out the most. Best fishing Ive ever had.

But I must mention a few others:

    * Working the tournament weigh in at the FTR Get Together.

    (I love doing that!)

    * Fishing with Bass Gal

    * Fishing with and getting to know Hutch

    * Catfish Days with Tuck! The leeches and willow cats swimming around the bikers in the pool!

    * Riding to Owatonna with Dustin, and fishing with Dustin.

    * Rolling out the new version of FTR in one weekend of power developing with James, and listening to my God Smack cd over and over and over, loudly!

    * Chatting with Zach B at the Landing

The FTR picnic and the new friends I have made this year brought fishing to a higher level. The websites have contributed greatly to my knowledge. As for a single fishing day , it would be Halloween night full moon on Mille Lacs. Yee Haa

Watching my 4 year old catch his first fish ( walleye) last month in the tailwaters of Alma Dam. I don’t know who was more excited.

My favorite fishing memories for 2001 all come from this board! What a great assembly! To meet the faces at the FTR Get Together, winning a lure from Jon J. (who is MUCH smarter than I!!), Pup-a-roni treats (new Hawger lure!), catching a new personal best walleye (thanks James!), smallie, pike, and muskie, eating (and liking) my first sheeper (thanks Tim!), you guys rifling me for it (lol!), and fishing with Rivereyes, James, SteveO, mnfish, Lance, CatDad, and DaveB!!! I certainly enjoyed my time with each of you!!! Also, big grins to the guys that joined in some fantasy football………..a first for me and a GREAT bunch of guys!

I don’t think that any of those things could’ve happened without this board and I’m just thankful for all of you!

\_/) Here’s my holiday mug of spiced cider………..and a toast to another shared year here at FTR/FTL/EFN! To 2002! (Cha-clink!) :O)

Mine has to be fishing with James, especially learning how unbelievably productive plastics can be and catching 40 walleyes, and 50 smallies on Lake Pepin during an 85 degree dog day of summer was awesome….thank you James!

Mille Lacs, Holloween night, under the shining northern lights….Wow! That was as good as it gets!

Also very memerable was a day last March before the water started comming up. Me and Tracker Guy in his boat and Beaver and James in thier boat, just down from Colville. The fish were snapping that day. All walleye and all pretty good fish! A few picture worthy.

The get together was great. Just wish I had more time to sit down and shoot the breeze with everyone I met that day.

During a mid-July afternoon, I was fishing with my wife when she caught back-to-back 27″ and 28.5″ walleyes off a deep wingdam. I was more thrilled than she was.

    1. Fishing with my 2 year old girl for the first time. Every time we go past Fleet Farm she lets me know we need to get “fishin stuff”

    2. Catching the bass I am holding in my pic. 24″ just under 6lbs. in July. Then releasing it.

    3. Meeting dodge boy and fishing with him at the FTR get togather , even though he beat me. Which was the only time that he has caught more than me! ;o)

I got to do some fishing and some story telling with James this fall. It’s not often(if ever) I get to get into a boat with an experienced partner both at fishing and boat handling . The fishing was good , but the time on the river with a new friend was great ! Thanks again for the memories…..ec
