Son and I had a great time fishing the sand pit in pool 14, on Saturday May 30. Trolling crank baits and gulp white twister tails things tuned out to be a fishing buffet. Caught 15 fish. In the mix, walleye, northern pike, white bass, crapppie and 1 lone large mount bass. We fished from about 8am til noon. The walleye were short, generally about a foot long. Had one eye that was a quarter inch short, just couldn’t stretch her out enough. Well the eyes will continue to grow along with the pike and large mouth. White bass and crappie tasted great for supper. Nice slabs, the white bass were decent not big like wipers.

    Take care and good fishing,
    Bill

Which sand pit were you fishing? The lower one right off the main channel or the ones up river off the back water slough?

I have tried both but never had much luck.

Bruce, I’ve been hitting crappies dragging jigs and trolling cranks in the pit below 3M. Similar results as holennet, with a wide variety of fish hitting both presentations. I was not marking any schools of fish to speak of’ just one here and there, mostly on the upstream end of the pit, where there are several sharp rising and dropping humps. Fish all over in the pits though!
