A long time to wait but….. it sure felt good to stand on that hard water again. Fished with limited success in 4 to 6 feet of water with only a few small gills to show for our efforts. An hour before dark we tried another bay with only 2 to 3 feet of water and found fish. The bigger gills and nice crappies seemed to like the shallow water today. Most of the fish we caught came on Shrimpos.

Note: Where we fished is strictly backwater with no current. The ice is still pretty thin so be careful especially if you plan on crossing any areas with any current.

You bet, I thought it would never come. We have right around 2 inches on the waters by winona. Caught a few pike and some nice gills. Just a reminder to all those around the Winona area be careful of that size limit on gills on the minnesota side. With this first ice it is always a good idea to wear a life jacket when venturing out there on that thin ice. Keep it safe out there and lets have a good season

Any word on the ice conditions near the Spring Lake area on Pool 10, about 4 miles south of Lock and Dam 10? Heading over this weekend and would like to know. Thanks in advance.
