How are they for eating? They were on a tear last night, wondering if I should have kept some to try in the deep fryer? Thanks, WTA

If cleaned properly, they are a great eating fish.

Zip them to remove the dark fatty meat in the middle of the filet and it is also recommened to leave about 1/4″ flesh on the skin.

When done that way, you can’t tell them different than from a walleye!

If you can put them on ice right away it seems to keep them firmer and better tasting, I kept them last year the family did not notice any differance between whites and eyes. Chippman

Bleed them ASAP, use a scissors cut their gullet until they squirt blood, after they have bleed out in the livewell put them on ice and then zip and skin the fillet leaving the dark meat and they are great.
