Alright guys, I’m looking for a little information regarding Pool 8. I fish that pool a little bit but mostly up the “black river” north of the Clinton st bridge, and a little bit near the dresbach lock and the spillway backwaters. I’ve never gone much farther south, and I know of some areas I’d like to at least check out for some warmer water these days. Anyways, I’m wanting to find out where “Lawrence Lake” is exactly. I know of 2 lake type areas off the west side of the channel to the south. 1 being just south of the island with Pettibone on it, and another downstream quite a bit where Hwy 26 starts to be along the shoreline. Any help with names and locations would be great. Feel free to link me to a g00gle map or something of the sort as well. Not looking for hotspots, just trying to associate names with actual areas.

    Aaron:

You will have to head quite a ways further to the south to find Lawrence. I am not sure that I can work with a google map to help show the location, but I will give it a shot.

Without looking at a map, I know it is on the Iowa side, but can’t remember if it is still north of the Upper Iowa River mouth or south. It is a large lake west of the main channel with its outlet where the main channel has headed in a SW direction and comes close to the west shore. I’ll be back and some other talented computer guys may have a map up for you by the time I get back.

Ok, well, maybe a different plan of attack on my end…. Here are a few links to g00gle maps showing large backwater type bays that I figured may have “lake” names.

Where you saw Hwy 26 along the channel there is a sign that says “Lawrence Lake Marina” and it points north. Heading downstream take a right south of the lighted marker there and head straight north along the west bank and you will run into the boathouses and the marina. You can see them from the main channel. Go past the marina(heading north and a little east)and you’ll see a narrow channel that winds its way to the lake.Dont follow the boathouses along the bank past the marina, stay east. Its a shallow channel but I have no problem with my 100HP motor tilted. The lake can be good at times for pan fish, pike, bass.PM me if questions.

Great maps GARVI. Those answered most of my questions. Also nice to know some of the names of the other areas I already fish as well. Its funny to see the real name after you’ve made up a name for a spot. Lawrence lake was a little farther south than I thought I guess, but it was one of the ones I had in my links above. I’m curious if anyone ever goes back in “Target Lake” which is my first link. Seems like it would be pretty similar.

Well, thats to be determined. Tomorrow morning a buddy and I were planning on experimenting with some areas we’d thought would hold warmer water. I’ve been suggested to check a few spots, but only by name and thats where my confusion came in earlier. Those maps I linked were just me putsin around with the maps and scouting a bit. I may be looking for someone to fish with either Fri afternoon or Sat morning. I just want to get more familiar with Pool 8 so I don’t always rely on Pool 7 for my usual outtings.

I knew these guys could help faster than I could even get back to my computer!!! I clicked on your first link and while I was waiting for that to come up I scrolled down to find out, I can take some time to look at some of these maps and see how my geography was!!! Good luck this weekend, I will be on P5.

Thanks! After this awesome streak of warmish weather and consistent sun, I’m sure confident the bass will be snapping a little better than last weekend. Good luck to everyone else as well.
