I am new to fishing in the winter and was wondering at what air temp you decide not to fish. I thought I read at 25 degree’s the ice on your line and eyelets becomes a constant pain. Any thoughts.
If you only fish when the air temp is above 25 you won’t be doing much fishing. It can be a pain when the line starts to freeze but that is part of the fun. I try to fish regardless of temp. that is if the ice is safe. There are some lines out there that don’t freeze up as bad as others. I’ve had good luck with Berkley ice line. Dress warm and good luck
I think it depends on how bad you want to fish. I don’t think I’d ever admit that it was too cold to fish. A little vaseline help a little to keep the eyelets thawed.
Hey Tom I’m assuming you were talking about fishing out of your boat on Pool 4 .. My rule of thumb this is just me.. Air temps in the 20’s with a wind speed of 10mph +…I usually will stay home. I have to really want to fish and everything in the boat is going to ice up…but I have done it…. It’s Just how bad you want to test yourself and your equipment.
Sorry for not being clear. I meant open water fishing on Pool 4. By the way KARE 11 is predicting a high of 30 on Sunday. Hope that forcast holds. Thanks for the info…
If it is in the 20’s, no wind with some sun, you’re good to go….nice and toasty out there . If it’s lower 30’s with a 20mph wind it is darn cold out there and it’s tough on equipment like Vandy said.
If it’s like today out there it’s way to cold even for this guy . James and I took a ride this early am to hit the river and had second thoughts upon our arrival. Neither one of us could convince the other to launch one of our boats
