What size jig heads is everyone using on the river right now fishing plastics? I know you want the lightest jig possible to keep in contact with the bottom. Is 3/8 too lite now? I fished last weekend with limited sucess. Just wondering if I’m fishing too lite.

3/16 with good boat control should still be fine.

Johnk, If your fishing with 3/8 oz. you’re sitting in too much current. Try the current seam adjacent to slack water. Read the water……….

I’ve had really good luck with 1/4 ounce jigheads.

personally for me it really depends on where you are fishing on the river and what depth. In the spring I go from anywhere from 3/8 to 5/8. I like to feel the bottom.

I used 1/4 and 1/8 yesterday. I could tell I could stay in contact better with the 1/4oz. but I know that the 1/8 oz. was doing just fine and I prefer to use the lighter one. It caught more fish. Finess sometimes is a great thing. Dont get me wrong though. There is a time a place to use big heavy jigs to pound them off bottom and get the fishes attention.

3/16oz – 3/8oz Depends on the situation at hand.

Are you pitching or vertical jigging? For pitching I have been using 1/8 and 3/16.

I have been using 1/4 and 5/16 oz. I try to stay in areas where I don’t need to go too large, 3/8 is generally the largest I will use.

Another biggie in the size you use is the shape of the head…in real current you can easily use around a 1/4 os or more smaller Pill head/flattened head jig than with a sphere or even more than that if you use a football jig. Taylor Tackle/ Hutch / I think bfishn and lindy all make this type of jig
