I was fishing at Trempealeau yesterday 12/18, Dam #6 and as we came off we were checked by the DNR. I did notice that my boat licence expires Dec.31. Being back in MN for only 1 year I am not sure if a large number of you need to do the same but you may want to check. In the past I remember that it had to be renewed in March. I think they have gone to a Dec.31 for most renewals.

    Just a reminder.

I just called the DNR. They said they do not have 2004 stickers, only 2003. Those guys with licenses that expire on the 31st of Dec. would usually get a two year sticker. The gal didnt know when they would have the 2004 stickers. She said to check back after Dec. 27th. I asked if I would get a ticket without a current sticker and she said “to check back on the 27th”. Sounds like a potential major problem in the works for us guys wanting to fish in January. Anyone have any clarification on this issue?

Excuse me if i’m wrong, but if your boat registration expires on dec. 31 2001. The new registration stickers would expire on dec 31 2003. So the DNR has the correct stickers available. One more quick question, does the dnr or state still send out letters or reminders to have your boat license renewed . Happy Holidays to all FTR and FTL friends!

I screwed that up. A normal license is a three year deal. They have 2003, but no 2004 stickers. You can buy a 2003 sticker but still have to pay full price. They said they were hopeful they’d have the correct stickers by the end of the month. If not they would send a notice out to the field people stating the problem. What that means for us, I dont know. Snowmobiles face the same problem.

I have just contacted our county courthouse about my MN. Boat License renewal and was told that the DNR was not ready with their new equipment so the renewal notices have not even been sent out yet. In other words she cannot give me the sticker. My guess/hope is that the DNR will forgive any expired sticker till they get there part together? Anyone else heard the same?
