I have yet to catch a fish blade fishing, but then I give up on it pretty darn quick as well. Not my confidence go-to set-up. How do you fish it?
Can anyone tell me what the best set-up is for pitching blades in the river? can an Avid ML rod do the trick?
what kind of line. braid or mono? Lb test?. do you tie on a snap or snap swivel or tie direct. thanks dave

I like 6’8″ legend tournament m-xf, definitely braid and a snap.

I had a discussion with Dean about this recently and I believe you want to go with the 6’7″ (I think thats the size) St.Croix Mojo Bass with an 8# braid for line. We really didnt get into specifics on a reel, but I am almost certain that was the rod and line of choice if my memory serves me well. I’m sure Dean or Eric will chime in here soon with the fine details

The line of choice is 8/3 fireline and use a duolock #2 snap on the blade. I am a bladebait rookie and it took me forever to figure it out but I finally have started to put fish in the boat with it. It truly is getting the right equipment and then practice, practice, practice. After a while you can almost visualize the blade as you lift it. The 8/3 line is important though. I was using 14/8 and I just wasn’t getting the feel for the bait like the 8/3 has. Hang in there and don’t give up.

Ive been doing just fine using ML 6’6″ rods with just mono and can still feel the blade working pretty well.

Good advice…then I like to take it to the next level with 6/2 Sufix Neon Orange…I haven’t tried the EX69MLXF yet but with a Avid 68MXF I think you would “overwork” the blade real easy an AVS 69MLXF would be my choice…The new LE 66MLF is awesome with the softer tip section to “cushion” the braid and action… I am speculating that an EX 70MLF maybe the ULTIMATE pitching rod for braid… :…now I have to test drive one from Deano and find out…

Sorry guys for delayed reply….been a busy day. Hands down for me,the 6″9″ mlxf. The xf tip in the ml action is tough to beat in my opinion. The good news is, this action is available in several price points starting with the new Croix mojo series or Limit creek at around $89 ,Avids, or my personal favorite,Legend Xtreme, which is one of the lightest weight and senstive rods built in the world. All of which are available to test drive if you are interested.I use a number 2 snap.

Thanks Dean…I should say I havent used MY EX69MXLF yet…I test drove one from Dean las Oct … first I hammered several sauger vertical jigging a Red Tiger 1/4oz Blade in 15-19 FOW. Impressive for a 6’9″ (I usually vertical with my 6’3″)…
Thats when I shouted upstream to Dean…”Hey Bud…what weight jig are ya using?”, as I prepared to try some plastic pitching…as he and Eric R were constantly fighting fish…Deano cooly replied 1/16…
Let me just say the current was too much for the tiny jig…methinks I was Suckered by one of the oldest fisherman’s ruse there is …
