The Iowa Natural Resource Commission has approved a D.N.R. proposal to close some Mississippi River fishing areas in Dubuque, Bellevue and Clinton for the winter. I really think This is a good move. I only wish it had been done sooner. I also think that they could have gone farther north.

Rigger, the closed areas at the 3 dams is only for a period of 5 years I think. It’s an experiment, and they will use the results of this experiment to compare against the upper and lower pools on either end of the closed areas to see if the changes have improved the fishery. If it works, I’m sure we’ll see these rules expanded to the rest of the pools bordering Iowa.
Now, if we can just get the towing companies to shut down until June or July————–

I say shut the tows down except for August. Give em one trip up and down per year. Build a railroad to ship up and down the river, or fix existing ones, and we would have less flooding, save what is left of the backwaters, and best of all, maybe the corps of engineers would have to quit messing with water levels unneccessarily!

Ohhhhhhh Rooster, that would be nice, wouldn’t it? Now, ya gotta remember, the Corps is only looking out for the betterment of the river.
Geeeeezzzzz, did I say that? Please, somebody stop me before I hurt myself!
