This past week has finally kicked the winter channel bite in full tilt on the Mississippi Pool 9.. My Guide trips and fishing this week have put well over 300 walleye/sauger/saugeye with 25 fish in the mid twenties on the ice, with only one exception they all went back to Swim another day . Some 9-12 inch Perch are also getting into our program.. As with all walleye fishing there are spots on the spot. Day after day this week we put 25-50 fish on the ice while others within 15 yards had one two or none. Some of the other everydayers did well too. When your there everyday fishing the walleye movements and those of us that are share info back and forth pretty smoothly and openly it just makes all the difference. Sunday the general bite was quite good and it appeared that many folks, ( only about 25 of us on the ice), were coming back across with a few nice fish.

With this cold weather this week we should add some good ice and firm up the soft spots but there will still be plenty of dangerous ice out there….yesterday there were some foolish people stepping through with one foot , not spudding ahead or even paying attention to wet snow spot, (open holes with snow/slush on top), Thank God literally that no one fell through. Those of us that fish everyday have the advantage of watching the ice form and are aware of where ice has just started forming…. Saturday two fool hardy fisherman were bragging how they had a full inch and a half underneath them where they were fishing in current…ALL I COULD SAY WAS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE BRAGGING ABOUT IS THE QUALITY OF THEIR INSURANCE BURIAL POLICY, BECAUSE ONE TIC UP IN FLOW OR WATER DEPTH AND THE ICE BUSTS ALL AROUND THEM AND NONE OF US WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAVE THEM… we were 200 yards away.

BE CAREFUL BE SAFE, BE SAFE, AND BE CAREFUL
