Are there any oportunities at whitebass through the ice down by Alma or Fountain City?

If you want to go a bit further go to Castle Rock. Very good white bass bite going on right now. It sort of pisses you off when you are targeting eyes and crappies and those buggers move in.

I’m sure he is. A friend at work told me the other day they were on fire.

As mentioned…that has to be a pain in the when your target is walleye and crappies

You must be getting your fertilizer put together early this year hey:

Just kidding ya know….I know some claim they are good, I just have not found that yet

I think they are ‘alright’ as long as you cut the red strip of meat out and try for the white meat.

    Has anyone tried pickling them?

I have and did not like them. The meat got waxy…smoked they are great!!!

Electric knives are the way to go Bret! Purposely leave some meat on the skin and the red meat stays on the skin. The meat is like a crappie if you “Get the red out!”

In addition to cutting out the red strip of a White – try soaking the white meat fillets in milk for 24 hours prior to cooking. Making my taste buds water just thinking about it….

Being from Barron now but raised an hour away from Castle Rock I fished it allot. White Bass are great don’t let anyone tell you different. As state previously take the red strip out and soak in milk and your good to go. but if you want to be a little more adventurous I like to get a bottle of salsa (cheap stuff is fine) pour salsa into a bowl then fill the jar up with water and mix, then pour over fillets and leave in fridge covered over night. Drain dip in egg and bread crumbs. ENJOY.
