I had the opportunity to sneak over to Red Wing today. It was a great day to be on the river. We found a number of active saugers today with a good average size. Fished shallow for a bit looking for larger eyes and couldn’t dig any up.

Closer to the dam about 22 ft seemed ideal. Further downstream the fish we a bit deeper at 26+ ft, but were much more active. Jig and minnow combo did the trick up stream , down further the active fish really tore up the sonars.

Anyone else have a report from there?

I made it to Redwing for the first time this year Walleye fishing. I’ve been reading the posts for the last week and finally made the time to go. All I can say is O MY GOD! I knew we were in for one of those days when we started our first troll (~200 yrds) and got 14 Sauger. We averaged 6-8 fish per troll and stayed at it for 8 + hours. 150+ fish 15 over 17 inches. My arms are sore from reeling in fish, my face is sore from smiling, my sides hurt from laughing. Makes a guy wonder why he descides to tourney fish bass, and put himself through all the stress, I’m as un stressed as a human can get right now. Just wish I had a weeks vacation left, I’de sleep at the boat landing. The day was capped with a 40″ sturgeon. Was hoping the whole time it was a state record Walleye lost in 26 ft of water. 1/2 hour of fun getting him up. We took a 1/2 hour break from trolling and flipped ringworms at the rap. We were rewarded with our first ever Walleye on plastics, just like it reads on the board. I don’t think I’ll ever buy minnows again, too nice having dry hands.

Launched out of Everts at about 12:00. Headed south away from the flotilla. Fished just south of haycreek. Caugt small walleyes in 21-24′, lots of saugers in 25-31′. I used a chartruese 3″ power grub and a bladebait. The guy I was fishing with used a fathead. Never got within 50 yards of another boat and caught fish all day. Didn’t count, but I know we caught plenty! Had planned on throwing jigs and ringworms, but the wind scared us out of that idea. Keep it vertical.
