Anyone out there own a st. croix legend tournement bass “mojo” rod…its the new one. I need a VERY stiff frog rod and was wondering wut you would compare that rod to with another rod stiffness wise. I have a cabelas tourney trail heavy action right now and its not nearly stiff enough. Any info would be awesome, thanx

I believe you are talking about the Mojo MBC70HF Slop-N-Frog rod ? I have one here you could demo for yourself on open water if you should find yourself coming this way by chance.Sorry that I cant tell you how the action compares with the Cableas product that you mentioned.

Steve, Ya, and could you add pads and bass in open water to that demo? Thanx

A floating dock has been known to hold a few bass now & again.

Yup thats the rod I’m talkin about. Idk if I would be able go test it out. But would you say this rod is stiffer than most frog rods?

I have had a slop n frog Legend Tourney rod for about 3 years now and have been pleased with it. It’s plenty stiff to yank fish out of the junk. My only beef is that it doesn’t work well for many other purposes.

I will see if I can get Mr Riverfan and or other bass guys to test this rod and report back.

    Dean,

Remind me the next time I’m in the shop and I’ll take a look. Slush and floating ice might mimic a bed of pads and duck weed. Seriously, I’ll try to make a judgement. I do have a high regard for the St Croix products.

    Bucketmouth,

Was at Evrets yesterday to get a fishing fix (it’s already a long winter) and had a chance to handle the frog rod. Compairing to other rods is hard but here is my impression. It WILL pull em out of the heavest slop. The action very close to a flippin stick but lighter in weight than most sticks. I don’t think you’ll be dissapointed. I’ll probably get one for myself.

    P.S. the fishing was OK.

    Bucketmouth,

Glad to help, I hope it works out. You can use the savings to buy a second rod. The whole line looks good.

Either that or a new reel to make a kick combo

imho you really do not need a 250 dollar rod to fish slop. all of you strikes will be pretty much visible, so the need for a really sensitive expensive rod unless you are really looking for a lightweight rod is pretty much overkill. i have a couple of falcon rods which are 80-90 dollar rods for slop and they are fine by me. i would get the mojo if i were you. st croix makes very nice rods,(i should no i have plenty of them ) it is pretty much a revamped premier for less money still made in the usa.

Kris…do you own any of the Avid Series rods by Croix? I got one for Christmas and love it. I was out casting it the other day in the snow
