When you pour Jigs what size hooks do you like to use? 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2.

    Thanks

    I like 1/32 & 1/64 for Crappies.
    How come they don’t put a little knob on top of the hook so as to keep the line from going forward which really changes the action & makes the jig hang up more. I have tried putting a touch of super glue on top of the line tie hole lately with good results. {John}

    RIGGER,

    1/32 OZ = # 6 OR 8 HOOK SIZE
    1/16 OZ = # 4
    1/8 OZ = # 2
    1/4 OZ = # 1 OR 1/0
    1/2 OZ = # 2/0
    5/8 OR 3/4 OZ = #3/0
    1 0Z = 3/0 OR 4/0

THESE ARE FOR THE DO-IT TYPE MOLDS. HOPE THIS HELPS. ALSO A PERSON GETS ALITTLE MORE CREATIVE AS YOU GET MORE INTO MOLDING.

As important as hook size is hook quality. I really like Mustad’s Ultra Point Jig Hooks. They are as sharp as can be and the tips don’t fold over when they bang the rocks. They are only slightly more expensive than “standard” hooks but in my opinion much better. Stamina or Jans Netcraft are two mail order options. Good luck.

I like a 2/0 hook for plastics. (Ring worms/K-Grubs) Regardless of the weight used to pour the jig head.

    Hey Rigger,
I like eagle claw fine wire hooks aberdeen style.
    1/32 –#4 hook
    1/16 –#1 hook
    1/8 — # 1/0 hook
    1/4 –#2/0 hook
    5/16 –#2/0 hook
    3/8 –#2/0 hook
    1/2 — #3/0 hook

To fit the bigger hooks some molds have been modified.
Good luck and make sure you have great ventalation…

Here are some excellent jigs with great hooks for plastics:

    Precision Jigs/Hooks

Notice the size and gap on the hooks. They are great for rigging plastics and have a ”keeper” on the hook to keep the plastics on. Thanks, Bill

There are no gold or chrome jigs that I’m aware of. But the colors offered are ”GREAT.” Add that and the other features and you have a true ”Precision” jig. Thanks, Bill

Bill I just order a box full last week. They are some great looking jigs I use a very similar jig only with a live bate hook. (short shank) That I get up in Deer River Minnesota. I have been poring jigs for over 20 years. I mostly use 3/0 for all my jigs. 4/0 for 1/2oz. I have no problem modifying a jig mold to get what I need. I do wish I could find some 1/0 and 2/0 jig hooks with longer shanks.

    Thanks All

RIGS, IF YOU NEED LONGER SHANKS ON SOME OF YOUR HOOKS MODIFY YOUR MOLD. WHAT I HAVE DONE IS CUT THE TIE EYE OFF OF ANOTHER JIG HOOK PUT IT IN THE MOLD THEN USED A STRAIGHT SHANK STREAMER TYPE HOOK. SOUNDS LIKE A WASTE OF A HOOK BUT IT SURE WORKS GREAT.
