I’m a newbie at all this. Sorry. I’m told by River Rat that Jim Holst ia the guy to ask about ice fishing on the back waters. That is, if we ever get any ice. I have never fished there before but would love to give it a try, at first chance. Help me out if you would. Thank you.

    Trapper,

Hi. Im from that area near La Crosse. I do not ice fish Onalaska but know a few that do. You should call my uncle Bill Pohl at the Edgewater Motel and talk to him. He owns a hotel on the lake and also owns the fishing float at Dresbach.

Sorry to be of so little help with this one Trapper but I’ve pretty much given up on the icefishing given that I can fish from my boat 12 months of the year on Pool 4 up here near Red Wing. Once upon a day I was a real die-hard ice pounder…. but not anymore.

I can share this though, down in that Lacrosse area, Lawrance Lake, north of Brownsville, has a real good early ice bite for crappie, panfish, and mongo pike through the ice. If Onalaska isn’t to your liking, give that area a try and stop into Lawrence Lake Marina and ask Dan and Donna for the latest info on the bite. They’ll be happy to help.
