I had the day off so I headed up to pool 6 and decided to fish a few patterns and mix it up based on whatever I encountered. With my boat all to myself I rigged up 3 or 4 poles and went to it. By early afternoon I noticed that I had 8 different rods rigged! Nuts, I know, but I had a lot of thing I wanted to try, and I caught fish on every rod at some point!

The smallmouth were hitting well on just about any rock that had some current. That Berkley “Chigger Craw” really worked well on a 1/4 oz weedless jig. It caught the majority of the smallies, a few largemouth, and an aggressive sauger pounded it on a main channel point! At one point when I lost a bait I substituted the Chiggercraw for a Netbait Pacacraw. That didn’t do nearly as well and I soon had the Chiggercraw back on and was into fish again.

I threw a Zoom Superfluke a bit and caught a couple on it. The flow is a little faster than I like for this bait, but the bass that took it really went for it!

I threw a Paddletail on a 1/4 oz head hoping to find some walleyes where I picked one up trolling a jointed ShadRap, but I only caught a couple smallies on it for my effort.

I threw a swim jig a lot and did quite well with it! At one point I had to drop anchor because I had a mother load of largemouth bass in some pads/grass on a downstream facing point. That was fun and again, I’m really liking this swim jig business. It was the best bait of the day, just edging out the Chiggercraw. I’m only years behind everyone on swm jigs!

On this same spot I took a couple bass deep in the pads on a Spro frog (used my lighest muskie rod) and a couple more on a swim bait. Great spot for experimentation! The swim bait was a “Shadilicous” (sp?) on a weighted 7/0 hook. Man do those things look cool coming through the water! They really wiggle! The two bass I caught were dinks, but they managed to get hooked with that 7/0 hook no problem! Little too much flow in that spot for this swim bait. They seem to need fairly stable water, but then again it was my first experience with them.

I caught three walleyes at the end of the day trolling #5 ShadRap
Geez, what else? In no order I caught fish on a: (1) Small crank rod (2) bigger crank rod (3) swim jig (5) jig (Chiggercraw) (6) jig (Paddletail) (6) swimbait (7) frog (8)fluke

The biggest bass was a 17″ largemouth and the big smallie was 16″. I had 4 northerns up to about 5 pounds, walleyes, that sauger, a white bass, and of course a sheepy, I didn’t count, but I caught a lot of fish. Fun day! They do seem to be biting!
