Thought I would ask for help on finding a jack specifically for use on a boat trailer. Ive had a couple of flat tire experiences over the last month… one with a buddy and a big boat and one with my small boat… in both cases the jacks that come with your vehicles has not worked very well to accomplish safely jacking the trailer… in the case of even my small boat the jack had to go so HIGH that the boat slid off from it right after I removed the tire…. and with the larger boat there were also numerous problems……

it seems to me there MUST be a better answer than using generic vehicle jacks?

yeah… ok… so Im finally admitting it to ONE and ALL… “I dont know JACK”!!

I keep a one ton floor jack in the back of the pickup. Also keep several sections of 2×4 and 4×4 wood. (Like 2-3 feet long) Use the wood under the jack to get as close the the axel or frame before jacking.

I use a small crank jack (came with my 1983 Audi GT Coupe). I had a friend cut me a 6 inch length of 4 inch channel aluminum and it attaches to the jack and fits under the trailer. The jack is also aluminum but I would bet any small scissor jack from a newer car and a piece of chanel aluminum

would work equally as well.I leave it in one of the cubby holes in the boat with a couple of blocks of 6 inch pieces of treated 2×8.

I purchased one of the die cast aluminum cam types from Cabella’s. With this one you place it against the axle and drive your vehicle to pull the cam until the axle has gotten the tire off the ground. I have used this on both boat and snowmobile trailers and it works good , even when you are by yourself. I keep it under the back seat of the Suburban with no problems.
