Just heard on WCCO Radio this morning. Pool 3 upstream from the dam at Red Wing for 5 miles closed to all pleasure boat traffic. Only comercial barge traffic will be allowed to travel that strech of river!!
The closing is due to increased security taking place at the Prarie Island Nuke Plant. The report did not indicate how long this closing would be for.
I’m assuming that fishing boats would be considered pleasure craft. Will post more info as I dig into this breaking story.

( RED WING ) No more fishing or boating on the Mississippi in the Red Wing area until further notice. The Coast Guard has banned recreational boating within 5 miles north of Lock and Dam 3 because of tighter security requirements for the Prairie Island nuclear power plant. The Red Wing Airport has also been closed because of its proximity to the power plant. It is scheduled to re-open next Wednesday. The tighter security measures were adopted after the White House on Monday said there was a good chance of another terrorist attack…
The reports that I got are that it is in a 5 mile RADIUS of the Island. That would include the dam and below if that is the case! I would imagine it would be the lock, and North because it is a barrier in itself.
