Sounds like there may be some mortality on the Mississippi from the tanker overturn today. I not sure how broad of an area this fish kill might cover but this only adds to the prolific polution of a great resource.

I seen on the news, it will travel about 5 miles, then dump into the mississippi. The MPCA said they have a berm set up, to try and catch most of the gasoline. Granted, they won’t get all of it, but they said they were lucky they had this kind of time before it would reach the river. Not that it is right, but I would guess more than this is spilled every summer, at the marinas, when people are filling up their rigs, granted in smaller quantities over time.

I would agree on the marina spills but this is very concentrated area. It sounds as if they were “mopping” what they could but fish mortality was expected.

The only good thing about oil spills or fuel spills, is the most toxic and volatile chemicals evaporate before they can cause much harm.

If you ever read the research studies on the Exxon Valdez, it will blow you away how out of proportion the government and environmentalist blew it. The largest part of destruction was done when clean-up was attempted…
