I’m from Winona and thinking about going to Lake Pepin with a canoe? Anyone know the area to tell me where to put this thing in at at good spot? Somewhere near a fishin’ area. Also, what do people use mostly to fish the lake? Never fished there before? Thanks!

    hey jerhad, guess who.

personaly, i don’t think lake pepin is a good canoe spot . i have seen a few kayaks out there, but never a canoe. it’s pretty big and can get real rough in a hurry with any wind and all the boat traffic.

the only way i’d try it would be really early when the waters calm and the big cruiser’s aren’t out yet. if you’re going to do that i think maple springs would be the best spot to put in at. you wouldn’t have to paddle very far to fish from there. next time we go out i can bring my hotspots map and show you where i’m talking about .

Indin Slough on the “Nelson dike road” is a great place to canoe/fish. You have access to the main river and some awesome backwater spots that most boats can’t get into right now cuz of the low water. It’s not Lake pepin, but just a few miles south of it. Should be some good bluegill action starting soon in there. Good Luck.
