Got out on pool 8 this weekend to do some bass fishing, but found myself dabbling a little in the crappie category…I found the bass bite to be a little better than it has been lately, but still a little sketchy. One thing I am very happy to report, is that the flow on the main channel has come down a lot. The wingdams are fishable..I can hold on them with my trolling motor on 50%, which is pretty good for my trolling motor. Last week 100% would still have you going backwards…:(….I was pleased with the looks of the wings, but didn’t have as much time to fish them as I would like. I broke off 2 fish on carolina rigs that felt nice. Makes me really take a step back and evaluate the condition of the line my rigs were actually in…
Largemouth fishing remains consistant but I have been time after time eluded by the larger bass. I have been desperately wanting to head elswhere, but The last several outings have been with friends and family, and my main mission has been just to put everyone on a pile of fish. I’ve been able to do that..But next weekend I’ll finally be bearing down and seeking out larger wintering fish. This weekend i would not doubt that there were close to 150 fish in my boat between myself, my dad, and my girlfriend. of those fish, only 7 were keepers. At least everone had fun. I caught the majority of these fish on drop shot worms but a couple nice ones on a spinnerbait fished slow around submerged wood cover.
    now on to the crappies.
It is looking to me like my late Fall crappie spot from last year is going to prove fruitful yet again this year. It all started when my girlfriend hooked a very nice 12″ white crappie with her drop shot worm. I thought it was time to break out the sweedish pimples and go to work. Sure enough, the fish were there, and I caught several in the 11 to 11-1/2 inch range with quite a few more in the 10″ range. This was all over a span of about 1/2 hour. It was a fun time. overall this weekend was a good relaxing time on the water, and I am ready for next weekend!

Thanks for the report Cade. VERY smart on your part by getting a girlfriend that loves to fish [they are hard to come by]. That can mean many more hours on the water in the years to come along with a fishin partner too. Sounds like she was smart too [got a guy who loves to fish].
    Thanks, Bill

Better be careful Cade, I noticed the word “girlfriend” appeared in your post at least twice. Sounds like priorities might be changing a bit??? Nice knowing you Cade! LOL
