The weather forecast for the next several days doesn’t sound very pleasant so I took advantage of my employer’s generosity and the fact that the FW was out of town at a seminar to spend the afternoon on Pool 2.
Crankbaits continue to produce multi-species action along riprap banks and on wingdams. I found Smallies, White Bass, and some big Sheephead. I’ve been using Berkley Flicker Shads and have no complaints. One of the Sheepies went 8 pounds on my deliar and it really mangled the hooks but the lure still ran true. Not bad for a two dollar lure.
Finally around sunset I found some Walleye action. I set up on a wingdam that had significant current flowing over it and started with crankbaits. No action there so I picked up the Limit Creek jigging rod and tied on a homemade hair jig. The current started moving the jig across the bottom….tap, tap, tap, OK we’re bouncing over the rocks just perfect….tap tap….THUMP Fish On! A few minutes later the same situation played out except this time it was a nice Sauger.
What a beautiful evening to be out on the river. The last picture here is the refinery in St. Paul Park, a scene I’m sure is very familiar to Pool 2 Fans.
