Not what we were looking for but, a nice Flathead on the Med. action Walleye gear made for some fun after dark
Mike C and I started the night casting crakes in current seems along rip rap and wing dams finding nothing going on so, we tried trolling
The grass made it impossible so we went vertical. Mike had some short hits on different live bait rigs producing one nice sheaphead on a crawler that wanted to play tug of war
I was using a 1/4oz jig blue/white with a healthy size minnow and getting slams only to bring back a skinned or half minnow, that is until it got dark outside
I flipped 2 pvc saugers in and out of the boat. This made Mike make the move to a jig/minnow producing the first Flathead, just short of picture worthy, but she sure made some nice runs Mike and I each had another fish on with a doubled over pole only to come un-buttoned ….then it happened, fish on
If I would have been anymore relaxed when this 14lb and change fish charged the bait, I would be minus one good rod
This fish headed straight for current and I had my hands full, the Berkley lightning rod was doubled and the Sedona had 10lb PP screamin’ off the front First words out of Mike’s mouth……looks like we have time for a beer
After a good run the trolling motor was used to get the boat and fish out of the current putting the odds back into our favor by being able to keep the fish vertical. It made for a perfect ending to a night on the water for the both of us
Great friends, Great times
